The Ultracompact HII Region G77.97-0.01
ALFA image of G77
Colour composite of three images of G77.965-0.006 taken with the ALFA/OMEGA instrument in the J, H, and K'-bands.
The ALFA image shows the infrared (IR) view of G77.965-0.006 in the left part of the image. Apparently this source, which was classified as an irregular ultracompact HII region by Kurtz, Churchwell & Wood (1994), lies at the rim of a dark molecular cloud. The rim, with several embedded - apparently stellar - sources is clearly visible due to its brownish light along a sharp dark edge. The image does, however appear not as detailed as the one of the Lagoon Nebula, owing to the target's much larger distance of 4.4 kpc. A close inspection of the image does show many similarities between G77 and M8 (The Lagoon), its up to you at this time to find them...
