MPIA is an associate partner in the SDSS collaboration. Two staff members at MPIA are named as participants with full data rights. They can sponsor a number of students and postdocs to work with them on SDSS projects using proprietary SDSS data. The data guru is the person responsible for archiving SDSS data and for supporting SDSS users.

The following persons obtained external collaborator status in order to finish their ongoing SDSS projects after they left MPIA: Eva Grebel (Basel), Alexei Kniazev (ESO), Walter Dehnen (AIP), Michael Odenkirchen (Bonn), Paco Prada (ING), Laura Pentericci, and Daniel Harbeck (University of Wisconsin).
Persons outside of the SDSS collaboration who obtained external collaborator status in order to work on joint projects with our SDSS group include Geraint Lewis (AAT) and Terry Bridges (AAO).
Long-term visitors at MPIA who collaborated with our group on SDSS projects include: Tamara Kniazeva (SAO), Amy Kimball (U Mich), Eran Ofek (Tel Aviv U), James Pizagno (OSU), Alexander Pramsky (SAO), Simon Pustilnik (SAO), Maya Vitvitska (NMSU).
